About Us Mocha Moms Brooklyn began in May of 2001 with five women, different in background, in upbringing, in educational experience and in spiritual belief making the same decision to take a common journey. Choosing to be a stay-at-home mother is one thing. Being a stay-at-home mother is another. Separately, these five women suffered loneliness, battled doubt and feelings of being disconnected and apart from “the world”. Together, each gave voice to their fears, each encouraged the other, each supported the other, and each validated the other. They provided soft shoulders and sympathetic ears. They made the sacrifices sweeter and the tough times easier. They laughed and sometimes cried, always together. They created a connection based on their willingness to be available to one another and responsible for one another. A connection that continues and, in fact, has become the trademark of the Brooklyn Chapter: We value our sisterhood deeply and tend to it most diligently.

The women in our chapter today are no different from the founding five. We continue to represent the wonderful diversity that is our beloved borough as writers, artists, teachers, lawyers, corporate executives, trade professionals and mompreneurs. We continue to bring a variety of life lessons and perspectives yet remain humbled at meeting others who share in the joys and challenges of motherhood as mothers of color. We continue to enjoy our children at play, to honor the roles and presence of our men and to recognize the importance of the African American family. We also continue to grow, to evolve, to recreate ourselves, and continue to remain committed to our core belief; Supporting Motherhood. Sustaining Sisterhood. Celebrating Motherhood.

Welcome to Brooklyn!
